It follows a child named Emma on her journey to learn how to communicate with the spirit of a girl named Uxoa, who has been trapped in a hermitage for centuries, so she tries to convince Carol, a skeptical medium, to help her. A supernatural thriller filled with scary deeds, thrills, chills and plenty of fear; yet some are confusing and inexplicable, the reason for some creepy events is never well explained. The film depicts a fictional story about the social reality that plagues a small town. It begins with a seemingly historical prologue involving a plague, a chapel where the sick were kept, and a flock of birdmen, but it turns out that this is a show that is part of the small town’s annual festival, when the chapel, which is supposedly haunted by little Uxoa, is opened for a short spell. It follows a child named Emma (Maia Zaitegi) on her journey to learn how to communicate with the spirit of a girl named Uxoa, who has been trapped in a hermitage for centuries, so she tries to convince Carol (Belén Rueda), a skeptical and fake medium, to help her.
The latter has literal scars from her childhood, when her possibly real medium mother seemed more interested in the ghost of a local little girl than her own daughter. This is an acceptable and approachable film with many not always sympathetic, deeply human and friendly characters. . This is a ghostly film that contains unsettling horror and a sinister atmosphere when the menacing creatures appear. Step by step, the mystery begins to unfold until its surprising finale, resulting in a sentimental ghost story with serious, brooding overtones in the mode of ¨Orphanage¨ or ¨Pan’s Labyrinth¨, but with its characteristic female focus.
It is an attractive drama, the interest in which wanes as its tedious accumulation of seemingly terrifying elements increases. While ¨Cerdita¨ in La Ermita focuses on pure terror, there are several things that confirm Pereda as a key figure in the current horror and fantasy genre. One of them is her frontal entry into genre cinema: she relies without hesitation on fantasy, adding personal drama. As the film progresses, it empties and does not allow us to talk about such a gem as 'Cerdita' . Pereda is very fond of Gothic, she enjoys the trappings of Spanish horror without making a horror film.
It turns out to be an adequate and decent film, but it is not remarkable. In the main roles, Belén Rueda gives a nice acting performance in her usual style, she is an expert actress in mystery and horror films such as In the Eyes of Julia, The Children’s House, No dormirás, Durante la tormenta, The Pact, Orbita 9 and The Body. In fact, Belén Rueda is the closest Spain has to a horror heroine or “Scream Queen”, she is well matched with the prodigy Maya Zaitegui, reminiscent of the young Ana Torrent in Cria Cuervos or El espiritu de la colmena (The Spirit of the Beehive). The motion picture was professionally directed by Carlota Pereda. As a female drama with genre-like tones, it is the second convincing presentation card of Pereda’s talent.
Her first film was the much better ¨Cerdita¨, which is based on Carlota Pereda’s own Goya-winning short film of the same name, winner of the Goya Award for Best Short Film in 2018, and also stars Laura Galán. Rating: 5.5/10.

Julie is a star at an elite tennis academy. When her coach is investigated and suddenly suspended, all the players at the club are encouraged to speak out. But Julie decides to keep quiet.. Belgium’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.. It’s still a pretty good story. But the script could have been changed. It’s like they had a few scenes in mind and then just worked on them.
There are some good scenes (the one with the bar confrontation comes to mind), but it’s not enough to keep things afloat. All the actors are at the top of their game. Above all, the young semi-pro tennis player who plays Julie. She really does her best with the material she’s given. But even that’s not enough. There are too many unanswered questions: What really happened between Julie and Jeremy? One moment she has a problem with the new trainer, and the next she will be trained only by him (I mean, what the hell…?) So, from a story perspective, it’s just a big FAIL!
But here’s my biggest problem with this movie. This director really doesn’t know how to make a movie!! The framing is just wrong. There were shadows everywhere. In one scene you can only make out two silhouettes talking to each other. He never cuts a scene between different subjects. It’s like they only had one camera available.
Now maybe (and I’m just guessing) he thinks this brings peace and quiet to his movie. And if you decide not to have cuts in your movie, make sure you stick to one key shot and let us (the audience) look and look where we want/need. No, this director decides for himself, we don’t need this information. So in many scenes we see people talking to other people whose heads are (half) cut off or you can only make out half of their faces. What do they teach in film schools these days??!! Also, was this movie shot on an iPhone??!! When I saw that Nikolas Karakatsanis was the cinematographer, my jaw dropped!
He really made a pun. It was just unwatchable at times. To me, this all comes down to one of two things: either this director doesn’t know the basics of filmmaking, or he just doesn’t care. Maybe he just wants to tell his stories. But film is a visual medium. And here they just got it wrong. And I, as a paying customer, want more.

Fictional miniseries based on the life of Ayrton Senna da Silva, the Brazilian racing legend who won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship three times.. She is based on journalists that covered Ayrton Senna's career. Furthermore, Scoledario's family is Brazilian, from Senna's home state of São Paulo.
Early races in Senna's career in England are shown at a racetrack next to a mountain range. There are no mountains in England – especially Norfolk, which is famous for its flat landscape.. Starting with this review of the series Senna, I'll begin by talking about the cast, especially the choice of Gabriel Leone for the role.
He is an actor on the rise, and this was undoubtedly the biggest role of his career. I believe he will go on to make great films with prominent directors because he has immense talent. Other cast members also skillfully brought their characters to life, transporting us to a bygone era with Galvão Bueno's narrations and the golden age of Xuxa. The production of the series is flawless, and honestly, Netflix made an excellent decision by investing everything to ensure the series was not only a national success but also an international one.
I made a point of watching the making-of, and it's sensational-surreal for a Brazilian series. The work on audio capture, the creation of cars and racing suits identical to those of the time, and the excellent CGI work were all outstanding.I wasn't born during Senna's time, but I knew of his importance to our country. However, I didn't fully grasp the extent of his achievements or his story.
Senna's emotional story moves us, from his childhood to the tragic accident. Senna is gone, but his legacy remains, and thanks to this series, it will be etched in the minds of future generations. The only critique, which didn't affect my final rating but is worth mentioning, is regarding certain indecent scenes that didn't need to be included. The series should have been made to watch openly with family, and I believe this was a mistake. But overall, it's a 10/10.
