A modern tale of fortune-hunting in the world of oil rigs in West Texas

A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will be the middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They essentially manage the land and secure leases in order to drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (the human camp), assemble the digging equipment, and drill the well itself, especially in remote areas. They are also the repairmen, troubleshooters, and enablers.

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that come with being a Yellowstone fan. The main storyline is engaging and exciting so far, but it doesn’t go very far. There are a few subplots that fit well into all the episodes, but maybe one of them detracts from the overall quality of the show.
The actors do a good job of portraying their characters
The visuals are worth noting; the direction and environment creation are nice. It would be interesting to hear what people in the industry think about the realism of the field scenes. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really carries the show well.
