After years apart, the star-crossed lovers find that all the paths they take lead them back together
Tale
Clotaire, a rebellious local teenager, falls in love with his classmate Jackie, but gang violence leads him down a darker and more destructive path. Malik Frikah, who plays the 17-year-old Clotaire in this film, was a world champion break dancer at the age of 10. One of the characters is wearing a Rolex Daytona Ceramic from the 1990s, but the watch wasn’t released until 2016.

The first part with the kids is pretty good. The movie should have ended there for the sake of the audience. And Gilles Lellouche would have directed one of the best French teen novels of the decade.
The rest of the film, the second act, is horrible
Actors François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos lack chemistry together, their performances in this film are dull and uncompromising. I suspect that both actors should start thinking about their own careers in French cinema as soon as the two newcomers Mallory Wanecque and Malik Frikah step up and steal the show in this confusing and mediocre film. At first, the movie looks like a modern version of The Count of Monte Cristo…
Stylized and tasteless men’s look
I mean the old story of a wronged young rebel who returns for revenge and to find his beloved. However, it falls into an exaggerated and caricatured toxic masculinity. And in the middle and end of the second act, the plot loses its credibility.
What we have already seen
On top of all the weight, the problem is the strange determination the film shows in demanding originality in every shot without ever achieving it. Whenever it’s time to decide, always choose the most formal and obvious. And so, it plays for three hours, essentially a French blockbuster with good marketing and public relations behind it, which is what the French audience will see this year.
